My Favorite CD
I found myself surrounded by cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, and hydrangeas, and before I knew it, I was enveloped in a temperature that made it impossible not to drink beer at any time. I love the heat, but with each passing year, it becomes more exhausting. However, if I immerse myself in the air conditioning, it creates a vicious cycle of affecting my health. So, I’m thinking of enduring the heat with beer, a fan, and this music. From the moment I hear the first theme, my spine straightens, and I forget about the heat. I wonder why.
“Cancellation” by Jackie McLean from the album “It’s Time”
Throughout the entire album, it has a sharp and invigorating feel. Herbie Hancock is so cool on this album. Seriously.
Next, let’s talk about this person who personifies coolness.
“Daybreak” by Chet Baker from the album “Daybreak”
It’s a trio with guitar, bass, and trumpet, and Chet’s trademark scatting is so relaxed that it makes you want to do nothing. But this is cool. It’s the complete opposite of the previous Jackie McLean.
Next is a masterpiece from the midst of masterpieces.
“OBI” by Toots Thielemans from the album “The Brasil Project”
In this song, you can fully enjoy Toots’ harmonica solo at the beginning, and that alone is cool. But when Djavan starts singing, the temperature drops by about two degrees. It feels so good. The second half takes a slightly mysterious turn, which further enhances the coolness. This album is cool throughout. There are quite a few cool music options from jazz, like Gary Burton, Chick Corea, or the Nordic vibes of EST. But let’s change the mood a bit at the end. This person plays the blues, but it still feels cool. I don’t know why, but I always feel like listening to it in the middle of the night. I don’t think it’s very well-known in Japan, but this guitar and this voice are irreplaceable when you need coolness.
“Goodnight Irene” by Kelly Joe Phelps from the album “Shine Eyed Mister Zen”
Lastly, as usual, my song. There aren’t many songs that are particularly cool, but I wrote this song as a tribute to Kelly when he passed away, and Frans Zimmerman, a Dutchman, played an amazing harmonica for this song.
Kaneko’s Song of the Day
For Kelly Joe / Lyrics: KANEKO Chalin
birds chirping
morning shine
moist wind
swaying plains
faint rain
just ordinary hometown in orange
With six strings and a bottle neck he can paint
beer bubbling
fighting, shouting and laughing
Moon light dancing
and stars bring
a sweet lady’s peaceful sleeping
never, without raising his voice he can sing
ah, ah
I miss you Kelly Joe
Every single sound from his hands
with some band or without a band
10 dollars guitar or famous brands
No one can make a guitar talk
just like Kelly Joe
I miss you Kelly Joe
romantic words
a grandson’s tear
flash of anger
smiling Grim Reaper
back of a sexy girl
lust for pearl
With six strings and a bottle neck he can share
wating for the sunrise / Lyrics: KANEKO Chalin
The road by the sea, no gas in tank
To the sound of wave we went down
There was nothing but sands
Far away ship lights were swaying in my hands
Smaller fire and few more beer
I can feel you near
There is nothing but love
One by one stars are fading above
We are waiting for the sun rise
We are hearing the breath of sky
We are feeling the heat from far away
We are here and we are there
We are past and we are future
Everything is linked to forever
The road with no sign, no gas in tank
To the sound of songs we went down
There were people in drunk
With three stings guitars they sang and danced
I am awake, snoring from everywhere
from your eyes little tears
There is nothing but love
One by one stars are fading above
We are waiting for the sun rise
We are hearing the breath of sky
We are feeling the heat from far away
We are here and we are there
We are past and we are future
Everything is linked to forever
